Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually and is dependent on funding and the number of qualified applicants. Typically, one to three awards are offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be 17 years of age or older. Preference will be given to applicants age 30 or older.
  4. Must be a female.
  5. Must have been a resident of Onslow County, North Carolina for six or more months at time of application.
  6. Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment at an institution of learning which provides either degree or certificate programs. The applicant may not be enrolled in graduate or post-graduate work in a college, university, or seminary.
  7. Must demonstrate that she has been out of the workforce for a period of time, needs to upgrade her skills or education in order to succeed in her career, or needs to change careers in order to improve her earning ability. Preference will be given to women who are single, separated, divorced, widowed, or head-of-household where the husband is unable to work.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Additional Information: As Ruby Ennis Maynard encouraged and aided her own children to pursue education for career goals and personal fulfillment, so shall this scholarship created in her honor aid deserving, mature women to fulfill their educational goals. The purposes of the Ruby Ennis Maynard Scholarship are: to provide educational opportunities for the mature woman who has been out of the workforce for a period of time, needs to upgrade her skills or education in order to succeed in her career, or needs to change careers in order to improve her earning ability; and to encourage women to strive to improve their lives, and consequently the lives of their children, through education. Applicants must demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to applicants who are members of the First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, North Carolina.

Award Amount: $1,000 to $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Applications are available online from the Triangle Community Foundation website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit a letter of reference from an individual who knows the applicant, but is not related to the applicant. It is preferred, but not required that the letter be from a member of the clergy. All applications must be mailed to the address provided and must be postmarked by the deadline date.
