Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to 65 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be a member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
  4. Must be enrolled full time.
  5. Must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  6. Must be a college sophomore, junior or senior.
  7. Must demonstrate financial need.

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. college sophomores, juniors and seniors who are members of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and are seeking an undergraduate degree. Students must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

Additional Information: The Student Opportunity Scholarship will provide up to 65 awards and may be subject to competitive selection if the eligible applicant pool at deadline includes more than can be provided maximum awards from the funds available in the program. Preference in this program is extended to racial ethnic students in order to promote diversity. The Office of Financial Aid for Studies will select from students determined to be eligible for award on the basis of: personal qualities of character and leadership as reflected in contributions to church, school, and community; recommendations from church and school; and essay.

Award Amount: Up to $2,000 annually, renewable for one additional year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.

Applications are available on the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (PC-USA) website via request. The student must fill out the 'Student Opportunity Scholarship Questionnaire' in order to receive the application. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following: a completed 'Biographical Questionnaire' (form available with the application); a one-page resume or curriculum vitae; a typed, double-spaced essay of at least 500 words and no more than 1,000 on the assigned topic; completed 'Financial Information Form', one section of which must be completed by his/her financial aid officer (form available with the application); a church membership/pastor's endorsement; and a faculty endorsement. Endorsement forms are available with the application. The student may send his/her transcript (including spring grades) in lieu of the faculty endorsement if a faculty member is not available. The transcript must be sent directly to the PC-USA Office of Financial Aid for Studies by the registrar. Applications must be emailed by the deadline date. Please note: In order to be eligible for this scholarship, the student must file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by June 1. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices.
