  3. Must be a full-time student.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  5. Must be a high school senior at time of application.

Description: The Ron Brown scholars program honors students making impacts on their communities. African-American incoming college freshmen are eligible for this award. Applicants should demonstrate academic achievement, leadership ability, participate in community service activities and demonstrate financial need.

Application requirements for the Ron Brown Scholar Program are:

Additional Information: Semi-finalists will be contacted in March and winners will be announced on the Ron Brown Scholar Program website in April. The Ron Brown Scholar Program seeks to identify students who will make significant contributions to society. Applicants must excel academically, show exceptional leadership potential, and make an impact on their communities through service to others. Financial need is a factor that will be considered in awarding scholarships. If the student thinks that he/she will be eligible for financial aid at the colleges to which he/she is applying, then the student should apply for a Ron Brown Scholarship. Award winners are selected on the basis of their applications, seminar participation, and interviews. Ron Brown scholarships may be used to supplement benefits for the college or university a student plans to attend, and fellowships from other foundations or organizations. Students may use the scholarship to cover the costs of tuition, fees, books, room and board, computers, health insurance, general living expenses, and other college-related expenses. Scholars may request that all or a portion of the award be utilized each year of undergraduate study or deferred for graduate study. The scholarship may be used at any degree-granting four-year college. Recipients may study any academic discipline of their choice. The scholarship may not be used for vocational or technical training.

Award Amount: $10,000 each year, for four years totaling $40,000.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $160,000.

Early applicant deadline is November 1 and the final deadline is January 9. Submit via mail no later than the deadline. No late submissions will be accepted Note: There is no advantage in submitting applications to the early deadline.
