In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a high school graduate pursuing an undergraduate degree.
  2. Must reside in and work in the state of New York.
  3. Must enroll full time.
  4. Must attend a SUNY or CUNY college, or Alfred University, or Cornell University.
  5. Must have an adjusted gross household income of less than $125,000.

Description: The Excelsior Scholarship Program is available for New York State residents who have an adjusted gross household income of $125,000 or less. Applicants must attend an undergraduate program at a SUNY or CUNY college and must enroll full time.

Additional Information: The Excelsior Scholarship Program was established in 2017 for the purpose of making college and university affordable for New York State students who have demonstrated financial need. Students must agree to continue living and working in New York State for at least as many years as they received the scholarship. Failure to do so may result in the scholarship being retroactively converted to a loan requiring repayment.

Award Amount: Up to $5,500 annually. Excelsior Scholarships may be renewable for up to two years of study leading to an Associate's Degree, or four years of study leading to an Bachelor's degree, or up to five years for undergraduate programs that typically take five years of study to complete (such as architecture). Awards are not automatically renewable and students must apply for each year they wish to receive funding.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,500.
