In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must reside in the Silicon Valley Region (Santa Clara County, San Mateo County, San Francisco County, Alameda County, and Santa Cruz County in California).
  4. Must be a current graduating high school senior planning to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or vocational school OR a current community college student planning to transfer to a four-year college.
  5. Must have a grade point average between 3.0 and 3.7.
  6. Must demonstrate community involvement.
  7. Must be the first member of the family attending college or university.

Description: This scholarship is available for graduating high school seniors and community college students in Silicon Valley. Applicants must be the first in their families to attend college.

Additional Information: The Krishnan-Shah Family Scholarship is provided annually to graduating high school seniors in the Silicon Valley Region (defined for these purposes as Santa Clara County, San Mateo County, San Francisco County, Alameda County, and Santa Cruz County in California). Current community college students who graduated from a high school in one of those five listed counties are also eligible to apply. Applicants must be the first in their generation to be pursuing higher education, and they must have a record of community participation, involvement, and leadership. Ideal applicants should have a grade point average of between 3.0 and 3.75, although higher and lower grades are not automatically disqualifying in the context of other achievements and activities presented on the application.

Award Amount: Up to $10,000 annually, renewable for up to four additional years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $40,000.

Applications are available on the Silicon Valley Community Foundation website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: two letters of recommendation (the letters must be from the people listed on the application); an official transcript of grades; a personal statement addressing the topics listed on the application; evidence of financial need as described on the application; and proof of U.S. citizenship (photocopy of birth certificate, passport or naturalization papers). The complete application packet must be completed online by the deadline date.
