Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered annually varies based on the number of qualified applicants.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a legal resident of Mississippi for one year prior to application.
  3. Must plan to enroll full time (12 or more credit hours per semester).
  4. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  5. Must be a graduating high school senior or GED student OR be currently enrolled as an undergraduate.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  7. Must have an ACT score of 15 or higher (or an SAT score of 720 or higher on critical reading and math, or an SAT score of 1060 or higher on critical reading, math, and writing).
  8. Must attend a state-approved public or nonprofit two-year or four-year college or university in Mississippi. A list of eligible institutions is available on the MOSFA website.

Description: This award is available to Mississippi undergraduate students who are enrolled at or planning to enroll at an eligible Mississippi college or university. Students must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher and an ACT score of 15 or higher (or SAT score of 720 or higher), and must receive less than the full Federal Pell Grant as determined by the completion FAFSA.

Application requirements for the Mississippi Tuition Assistance Grant (MTAG) are:

Additional Information: Created by the Mississippi Legislature, this program is designed to provide financial aid assistance to Mississippi residents attending state approved public and nonprofit two-year and four-year eligible colleges and universities. The primary objective of the MTAG is to provide educational opportunities for students who wish to pursue postsecondary education in the state. Eligible students must receive less than the full federal Pell Grant as determined by the completion of the FAFSA. The MOSFA uses the latest version of the results of the FAFSA process to determine an applicant's Pell Grant eligibility. Students must be pursuing their first certificate, first associate's degree, or first bachelor's degree.

Award Amount: Up to $500 per academic year for freshmen and sophomores, and $1,000 per academic year for juniors and seniors. Awards are renewable for up to eight semesters or until degree completion, whichever comes first. Recipients must maintain full-time enrollment with a minimum 2.5 grade point average.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $591.

Applications are available online from the Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid (MOSFA) website. Please note: All students must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this award. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gove, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. In addition to the online application, each student must submit the following supporting documents: a signed copy of the first two pages of his/her parent's (or his/her, if independent) state tax return for the current tax filing year; and a copy of his/her Mississippi driver's license (may be submitted electronically during the online application). Please note: If possible, information from the supporting documents will be replaced by results from the FAFSA, which is received electronically by MOSFA. The online application must be submitted by Sept. 15. Supporting documents must be submitted by Oct. 15.
