In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a resident of California (required to qualify for the Board of Governors Fee Waiver).
  4. Must plan to attend an eligible community college in the fall with a course load of at least 8 credits.
  5. Must plan on enrolling at Sierra College or the Los Rios Community College District (American River, Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake, and Sacramento City colleges).
  6. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 point scale upon applying and graduation.
  7. Must have a documented learning disability. A diagnosis of ADHD alone does not qualify.

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. high school seniors who have a documented learning disability (ADHD alone does not qualify) and plan to attend Sierra College or a Los Rios Community College District institution. Students must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher, and must demonstrate financial need by qualifying for a Board of Governors Fee Waiver (BOGW).

Additional Information: Applicants must demonstrate financial need by being eligible for the for the Board of Governors Fee Waiver (BOGW). Information on eligibility and application for the BOGW is available online at www.icanaffordcollege.com/financialaidinfo/typesofaid.aspx. Finalists will be notified via email in early June and a 30-minute interview time will be set up. PCF will conduct interviews from mid to late June. PCF will contact the chosen recipients of the scholarships during the end of June. Each awardee will be notified via email with instructions and requirements that must be met by the end of summer. The names of the recipients will be posted on PCF's website in September. Due to the volume of applications, non-finalists will not be personally notified. The PCF Board of Directors will serve as the selection committee. Please note: Partner institutions' faculty and financial aid staff do not have any involvement in the selection process for the PCF scholarship program. Home-schooled students are not eligible.

Award Amount: Up to $3500  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,500.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in February for a refreshed application deadline date. Applications are available on the Pine Cone Foundation (PCF) website. In addition to a completed application, each student must submit the following materials: a recent photograph with his/her name written on the back (photo printed on paper acceptable); a signed reference letter from a school counselor, teacher, principal, or extracurricular activity leader in a sealed envelope (must follow the instructions provided on the application); a complete high school transcript (unofficial acceptable); a copy of current documentation of a learning disability (may include an IEP and/or 504 Plan and/or a letter from a psychologist, testing institution, or school counselor); and a copy of the official email confirming his/her Board of Governors Fee Waiver approval. All materials for each applicant must be included in one package and will not be returned. Materials must be paper-clipped. PCF cannot accept applications via email or fax; applications must be mailed to the address provided. PCF suggests shipping with USPS Priority Mail, FedEx, or UPS to ensure the application package can be tracked; there will be no outreach from the organization confirming the receipt of the student's package. Applications must be postmarked by the deadline date.
