Number of Awards & Eligibility: One scholarship provided annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a member of the AIST Southeastern Chapter (Southern Virginia, Eastern Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida) or the dependent of a member in good standing.
  2. Must be planning to pursue a career in the steel and iron industry.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  4. Must be accepted to or enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program at the time of application.
  5. This award is for U.S. students.
  6. Must be enrolled or planning to enroll full time.

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. high school seniors and undergraduate students in the AIST Southeastern Chapter (Southern Virginia, Eastern Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida) who are planning to major in engineering and pursue a career in iron and steel technology. Applicants must be AIST members or dependents of AIST members.

Application requirements for the AIST Southeast Member Chapter Gene Suave Scholarship are:

  • Official Transcript
  • Resume
  • Copy of ACT/SAT Score Reports
Additional Information: The objective of the Southeast Chapter is to reward and encourage an AIST Southeast Chapter high school senior or college undergraduate student, preparing for a career in Engineering or the sciences, by providing a grant of financial support during attendance full or part time at any accredited university or college. AIST Foundation Scholarship awards are intended to attract talented and dedicated students and to encourage them to pursue careers within the iron and steel industry. The AIST Foundation Board of Trustees administers the scholarships. Please note: Students must be AIST Southeast Chapter members or dependents of AIST Southeast Chapter members to apply for this award.

Award Amount: $3,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,500.

Applications are available online on the Association for Iron and Steel Technology (AIST) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a current resume with work experience and any extracurricular activities, noting any leadership positions; one essay of up to 250 words describing one of the topics on the application; a letter of recommendation; a copy of SAT and/or ACT test score reports; and a current high school or college transcript. The application and all supporting materials must be submitted by email or postal mail and must be received no later than the deadline date.
