Number of Awards & Eligibility: Fourteen awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must demonstrate academic achievement with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
  3. Must be a resident of Hawaii.
  4. Must plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university as a full-time student (12 credits per semester).
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must be a high school senior at time of application.
  7. Prefence is given to students majoring in engineering, medicine, political science, radio technology, law, or education.

Description: The Ben and Vicki Cayetano Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for Hawaii high school seniors who have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Prefence is given to students majoring in engineering, medicine, political science, radio technology, law, or education.

Additional Information: In addition to other requirements, applicants must also demonstrate financial need and good moral character. Preference for this scholarship will be given to students with the greatest financial need. Recipients will be notified after the scholarship selection committees meet, which could be any time between May and August.

Award Amount: Approximately $2,000 annually, non-renewable. Students may reapply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $28,000.

Online application forms are now available on the Hawai'i Community Foundation website. The student should visit the Hawai'i Community Foundation's website for detailed instructions on how to complete the online application. In addition to the online application form, the student must submit the following supporting materials: the printed confirmation page that is generated after applying online; a typed, double-spaced personal statement of two to three pages answering the questions listed on the website; an official copy of his/her most recent transcript; and a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Two letters of recommendation must also be submitted for this scholarship. These letters should be written by a teacher, counselor, minister, and/or employer who can comment on the applicant's overall character, achievement, and promise. The FAFSA is available online, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. All supporting materials must be postmarked or hand-delivered on or before 5 p.m. HST on the deadline date.
