In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a single parent (man or woman).
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  4. Must be a resident of Rhode Island.
  5. Must be enrolled in an undergraduate program.
  6. Must have a low income.

Description: The purpose of this scholarship is to assist low-income single parents who reside in Rhode Island in the pursuit of an education beyond high school. Preference will be given to parents currently or previously receiving state aid and those who have been previously incarcerated.

Award Amount: Approximately $1,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

Applications are available on the Rhode Island Foundation website. The student must click on the "Scholarship/Fellowship Opportunities" link and then search for his/her desired scholarship to access the application.As part of the online application, the student must upload the following required documents: one recommendation letter from a teacher or other professional who can attest to his/her specific qualifications that would make him/her a worthy candidate for this award; a completed 'Financial Information Worksheet' (accessible for download in the application); a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report), which is generated after filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid); the most recent version of his/her student transcript (unofficial accepted); and an essay of 300 words or less on the topic listed on the application.Documents must be in Word, Excel, or PDF formats. File names should describe the attachment.Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. EST on the deadline date.
