Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must pursue studies in gerontology.
  3. Must attend or plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university as a full-time student (12 credits per semester for undergraduate; 9 credits per semester for graduate).
  4. Must be a resident of Hawaii.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must demonstrate academic achievement with a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.
  7. Must be a college junior or senior or be a graduate student at time of application.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for Hawaii undergraduate and graduate students who have a grade point average of 2.7 or higher. Students must be pursuing studies in medicine, and additional preference will be given to students studying gerontology, Alzheimer's, and other aspects of elder care.

Additional Information: In addition to other requirements, students must also demonstrate financial need and good moral character. Please note: Preference given to students specializing in geriatric medicine or Alzheimer's care. Students should provide additional information about their interest in the space provided on the application. Recipients will be notified after the scholarship selection committees meet, which could be any time between May and August 2019.

Award Amount: Approximately $1,000 annually, non-renewable. Students may reapply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Online application forms are available on the Hawai'i Community Foundation website. The student should visit the Hawai'i Community Foundation's website for detailed instructions on how to complete the online application. In addition to the online application form, the student must submit the following supporting materials: the printed confirmation page that is generated after applying online; a typed, double-spaced personal statement of two to three pages answering the questions listed on the website; an official copy of his/her most recent transcript; and a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The student will also be required to provide the name of the ABC Stores employee under whom he/she is applying and the employee's relationship to him/her. Note: Students WILL NOT be able to submit his/her application until all required supporting documents are electronically attached to the application. Applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. HST.
