In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be planning to pursue a career in journalism.
  2. Must be attend or be a graduate of a high school in Maine.
  3. Must be a high school senior or undergraduate student at the time of application.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  5. This award is for U.S. students.

Additional Information: The Guy P. Gannett Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 by the Guy P. Gannett Foundation to provide renewable support for students majoring in journalism or a field reasonably related, including all forms of print, broadcast or electronic media. Recipients must be graduates of Maine high schools or home-schooled in a Maine community during their last year of secondary education. Students will be chosen based on demonstrated interest in journalism, financial need, and academic achievement.

Award Amount: Award amounts vary based on the funds available, the number of recipients selected, and individual financial need.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Applications and additional information about this award can be found online at the Maine Community Foundation website using the link provided.To be considered for this award, students must submit a completed application form, as well as the following supporting documents: a personal statement, written as a letter addressed to the scholarship committee, that introduces the applicant and his/her goals; a writing sample based on the information and guidelines in the Writing Exercise section of the application; three samples of the applicant's best recent written works (other than personal blogs); and a recent letter of recommendation from a teacher or employer who can speak to the candidate's academic and professional potential.Applications and supporting documents must be submitted online no later than the deadline date.
