In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be pursuing postsecondary education. Graduate students are ineligible.
  4. Must be a woman.
  5. Must live in Newport County, Rhode Island.

Description: This scholarship is open to female residents of Newport County, Rhode Island, who are pursuing postsecondary education and have financial need. Preference is given to highly motivated women seeking further education or training to become self-supporting.

Additional Information: All applicants must demonstrate financial need. Preference is given to highly motivated women seeking further education or training to become self-supporting. The purpose of the program is to provide direct support of course fees/tuition assistance and/or assistance with support services directly linked to achievement of the student's educational goals.

Award Amount: $1,000 to $2,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in November for a refreshed application deadline date. Applications are available on the Rhode Island Foundation website. The student must click on the "Scholarship/Fellowship Opportunities" link and then search for his/her desired scholarship to access the application. As part of the online application, the student must upload the following required documents: a completed 'Financial Information Worksheet' (accessible for download in the application); a copy of her SAR (Student Aid Report), which is generated after filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid); the most recent version of her student transcript (unofficial accepted); an essay of 500 words or less on the topics listed on the application; and one recommendation letter from a teacher or other professional who can attest to her character and specific qualifications that would make her a worthy candidate for this award. Documents must be in Word, Excel, or PDF formats. File names should describe the attachment. Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. EST on the deadline date.
