In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be planning a career of service to the United States in local, state, or federal government.
  4. Must be a graduating high school senior at time of application.

Additional Information: Please note: Students do not apply for specific named scholarships; an application is automatically considered in each category for which it qualifies. The judges' decision will be based on the following criteria: understanding of career requirements; purpose in choice of a career; preparation for such a career; qualities of leadership exhibited; sincerity; and historical perspective. The Board of Judges will consist of at least six Trustees of the Washington Crossing Foundation, at least one former scholarship winner, and a prominent educator. Semi-finalists and finalists will be notified of their status by March. Semi-finalists may be interviewed by telephone. Winners will be notified by April 1 and will be posted on the WCF website by June 30.

Award Amount: $500 to $5,000 annually, non-renewable. Scholarship recipients also receive an all-expenses-paid weekend, including transportation and housing, to Bucks County, Pennsylvania, to attend the Scholarship Awards Ceremony. Please note: All recipients must attend the Scholarship Awards Program on April 23, 2016, in order to win their scholarships.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,750.

Application instructions may be obtained online from the Washington Crossing Foundation website. There is no application form for this award. The student must provide three copies each of the following: a cover page containing his/her personal information as described under the 'Rules' section of the foundation's website; a one-page, double-spaced essay of 300 words or less stating why he/she is planning a career in government service (must be typed in no less than 12-point font); a letter of recommendation from his/her high school principal or guidance counselor; a copy of his/her high school transcript plus SAT/ACT scores; and any other documentation the entrant, the principal, or the guidance counselor may wish to submit such as additional recommendations, class rank, or grade point average. A concise resume of biography, honors, awards, and activities is preferable to excessive documentation. The listed materials must be assembled into three dossiers. All information is to be collated in the order listed on the website and stapled together in the upper left corner. Transcripts and letters of recommendation are to be collated with the rest of the dossier and must not be mailed separately. The three dossiers are to be mailed unfolded in one, flat, 9" X 12" envelope to the address provided, and must be postmarked by the deadline date.
