All students who file a FAFSA by the deadline and list Rhode Island as the legal state of residence will automatically be considered for the state grant program. Students must have a RIHEAA calculated financial need of at least $1,000 to be eligible for a RI state award. The Financial need formula is calculated using tuition and fees, plus a Standard Living Allowance, minus the Expected Family Contribution (EFC), minus estimated Pell Grant. The EFC is calculated by the U.S. Department of Education using information provided on the FAFSA.
