Number of Awards & Eligibility: One scholarship will be provided annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a resident of Ventura County, California.
  2. Must be a graduating high school senior or current undergraduate student.
  3. Must be majoring in science education or a related field that will lead to a career as a science teacher.

Description: The Science Matters Scholarship Fund is provided annually to residents of Ventura County who wish to pursue a career in science education. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.2 or higher and must be current high school seniors or undergraduate students.

Application requirements for the Science Matters Scholarship Fund are:

Additional Information: Awarded to a Ventura County resident who will graduate this year from a Ventura County high school or who has previously graduated from a Ventura County high school and will enroll/is enrolled at an accredited 4-year college or university in pursuit of a degree to become a teacher at the elementary or high school level with a focus on science education; acceptable majors include liberal studies with a focus on science education, or chemistry, physics, biology, or geology with the intent to become a science teacher. Candidates must demonstrate financial need and have a minimum 3.2 GPA.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications for and additional details about the Science Matters Scholarship Fund are available online at the Ventura County Community Foundation website. To apply for this scholarship, students must complete all sections of the online application form. Applicants must also submit an original essay in response to the award's topic, as well as two letters of recommendation. At least one letter of recommendation must be submitted by a current faculty member at the school the student is attending. All applications and supporting documents must be received by the deadline date.
