Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, seven awards were given.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  3. Must be currently enrolled as a high school freshman, sophomore, junior or senior.

Description: U.S. high school students may apply for this award. Students must first register online in order to receive an application packet. Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 each with multiple winners to be selected. Financial need is NOT considered; all income levels are encouraged to apply. Apply today!

Additional Information: The ACF Scholarship Committee will determine award recipients; a qualification interview may be required as part of the application process to assist the ACF in ultimately determining the winners. Selected recipients agree that their application, essay, picture, and name may be acknowledged on the ACF website and associated materials. Applications are judged on the ability to follow guidelines (25 percent), grammar and punctuation (25 percent), and the merit of the written essay (50 percent). Winners will be chosen on or before June 28, and awards will be distributed by July 31.

Award Amount: $1,000 to $5,000 annually, non-renewable. Only non-winners may reapply each subsequent year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Additional information is available online from the American College Foundation (ACF) website. An interested applicant must complete registration to begin the application process. He/she will then receive an application packet within two weeks. If the student has not received the packet in two weeks, he/she may email ACF using the address provided. Emails will NOT be accepted to obtain an application packet or to check the status of an application. All applications will consist of an application, a copy of the student's most recent report card, and a 500-word, typed, double-spaced essay on "Why College is Important to Me." All components of the application must be received completely at the time of submission for a student to be eligible for an award. Partial and/or incomplete applications will NOT be accepted and the applicant will NOT be notified. Application packets may be submitted via email or fax for express submission or via regular mail and must be received by the deadline. Only one application per student, per award year will be accepted.
