Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a member of the Birmingham AIST or the child (natural, step, adopted, or ward) or spouse of a member in good standing, of the AIST Birmingham Member Chapter.
  2. Must be majoring in engineering.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.
  5. Must plan to pursue a career in the steel and iron industry.
  6. Must be a high school senior or undergraduate at the time of application.
  7. Must be enrolled or planning to enroll full time.

Description: This scholarship is available for high school seniors and full time undergraduate students in Birmingham, AL who are majoring in engineering with an interest in the steel and iron industries. Applicants must be AIST members or dependents of AIST members to apply for this award.

Additional Information: The objectives of the AIST Birmingham Member Chapter Scholarships are to reward and encourage AIST Birmingham Chapter area high school seniors or currently enrolled undergraduate students preparing for a career in engineering by providing a grant of financial support during full-time attendance at any accredited college or university. AIST Foundation Scholarship awards are intended to attract talented and dedicated students and to encourage them to pursue careers within the iron and steel industry. The AIST Foundation Board of Trustees administers the scholarships. Please note: Students must be AIST members or dependents of AIST members to apply for this award.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available online on the Association for Iron and Steel Technology (AIST) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a current resume with work experience and any extracurricular activities, noting any leadership positions; one essay of up to 500 words describing one of the topics on the application; three letters of recommendation; a copy of SAT and/or ACT test score reports; and a current high school transcript. The application and all supporting materials must be submitted by online and must be received no later than the deadline date.
