Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be an undergraduate student during the upcoming academic year.
  4. Must be a resident of North Carolina.
  5. Must be a full-time student.
  6. Must have a desire to pursue a career in construction (especially water and wastewater construction).
  7. Must pursue a degree in a construction related program such as: construction management, construction science, construction technology, construction safety, engineering, or architecture.
  8. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. undergraduate students who have a desire to pursue a career in construction (specifically, water and wastewater construction) with a degree in a construction-related program such as: construction management, construction science, construction technology, construction safety, engineering, or architecture. Students must reside in North Carolina and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Additional Information: Preference will be given to students who are members of a student chapter of NC AWWA-WEA. The NC AWWA-WEA Scholarship Selection Committee will evaluate each application carefully and consider the following criteria: the quality and completeness of the application; the qualifications of the applicant; the content of the essay; recommendation of instructors; and other information requested in the application. Scholarships will be awarded without regard to race, creed, color, sex, age or national origin. Letters of notification will be mailed to all applicants by June 20. If notification of the decision has not been received by July 1, the student should contact the NC AWWA-WEA. The student must not be related to scholarship sponsors nor employed by such sponsors and not an employee of nor related to officer or director of NC AWWA-WEA, nor to any member of the Endowment Committee.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, renewable annually through the recipient's senior year by documenting that he/she continues to meet the qualifications stipulated in the initial award of the scholarship. The award recipient will qualify for free registration for the Annual NC AWWA-WEA Conference each year in which he/she is awarded scholarship.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.

Applications are available on the NC AWWA-WEA website. Please note: The student may submit a single application to apply for all awards for which he/she is eligible. In addition to a completed application, each student must submit the following materials: recommendations from two or more college instructors (in sealed envelopes signed by the instructors); an essay of 800 words or less discussing why he/she wants to be a professional in the field of water and wastewater construction and what contributions he/she hopes to make to this sector of the water industry; an official transcript with the college seal; and a completed 'Academic Advisor Certification' (form available on the NC AWWA-WEA website). The student should not submit any additional materials with his/her application. Materials that are not requested will not be reviewed with the student's application, nor will they be returned. All application materials must be submitted in one envelope to the mailing address provided. Applications must be received by the deadline date.
