Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards vary according to the number of eligible students and available funds.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a member of any of the following ethnic/racial groups: African American, American Indian or Alaskan Native; Asian or Pacific Islander; or Hispanic.
  3. Must be a resident of Kansas.
  4. Must meet one of the following academic requirements: an ACT score of 21 or higher or an SAT score of 990 or higher; a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher; a high school rank in the upper 33 percent; completion of the Kansas Scholars Curriculum; selection by the National Merit Corporation in any category; or selection by the College Board as a Hispanic Scholar.
  5. Must attend a Kansas public or private college or university.
  6. Must plan to enroll full time.
  7. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  8. Must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program.

Description: This award is available to Kansas undergraduate minority students who are planning to enroll at a Kansas college or university. Students must demonstrate financial need and must be identified as members of any of the following ethnic/racial groups: African American, American Indian or Alaskan Native; Asian or Pacific Islander; or Hispanic. Awarding priority is given to eligible renewals and freshmen students.

Additional Information: The Kansas Ethnic Minority Scholarship program is designed to assist financially need, academically competitive students who are identified as members of any of the following ethnic/racial groups: African American, American Indian or Alaskan Native; Asian or Pacific Islander; or Hispanic. Awarding priority is given to eligible renewals and freshmen students.

Award Amount: Up to $1,850 annually, renewable for a total of four years (or five years if the student is enrolled in a five-year program). Recipients must maintain a 2.0 grade point average and continue to demonstrate financial need.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $7,400.

Applications are available from the Kansas Board of Regents website. Students must complete the State of Kansas Student Aid Application online. In addition, new applicants must have a high school counselor, registrar or similar official complete the Ethnic Minority Scholarship Information Form. All applicants must also file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. For priority consideration, scholarship applications and required materials must be submitted by the deadline date.
