Number of Awards & Eligibility: Varies, all qualified applicants will be considered if sufficient funds are available.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must not have received a bachelors degree or completed 150 semester credit hours.
  3. Must be a resident of Missouri.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
  5. Must be 18 years of age or older.
  6. Must be enrolled on a half time basis.
  7. Must be employed and compensated for 20 or more hours per week.
  8. Must attend a participating postsecondary institution in Missouri.
  9. Must demonstrate financial need.

Description: This award is available to Missouri students who are employed while enrolled part-time at a college or university in Missouri. The student must be at least 18 years old, and be employed for at least 20 per week, and demonstrate financial need.

Additional Information: The Marguerite Ross Barnett Memorial Scholarship is a state program, administered through the Missouri Department of Higher Education, established to provide financial assistance for students who are employed while attending school part-time. The award is based on the financial need of the student. Financial need is calculated as follows: Cost of attendance (COA) - Expected Family Contribution (EFC) - Estimated Financial Assistance (EFA). The EFC is calculated by the U.S. Department of Education using information you provided on the FAFSA. EFA can include government or private grants, scholarships or loans. It is all of the aid included in the student's financial aid package. Award Amount: Up to $2,425 per semester ($4,850 annually). Award amounts may vary based on the number of credit hours the recipient is enrolled. Awards are not automatically renewable, recipients may re-apply each year and must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,850.

Applications are available from the Missouri Department of Higher Education (MDHE) website and from the financial aid offices of participating colleges in Missouri. Students must apply directly through eligible postsecondary institutions within the state of Missouri. To apply, students must complete the Marguerite Ross Barnett Employment Verification Form, and must also file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. There is no set deadline for applying but early application is encouraged. The FAFSA must be completed as soon as possible after January 1 and before August 1 to be considered for the award year. Final eligibility is determined by the participating institution, usually in late August for the fall semester and mid-January for the spring semester. Students should contact his/her institution for additional details.
