Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered annually varies and is depending on funding and the number of qualified applicants. Last year, four awards were given.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of western New York State (west of Interstate 81).
  3. Must plan to enroll in an accredited degree program in manufacturing engineering, manufacturing engineering technology or mechanical technology.
  4. Must plan to attend a college or university in New York.
  5. Must have an overall grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  6. Must be from a country that has at least one Society of Manufacturing Engineers senior chapter or district.
  7. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate award.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for U.S. and international students who are residents of western New York State (west of Interstate 81) attending a college or university in New York State. The applicant must have a 2.5 grade point average or higher to be eligible.

Application requirements for the Albert E. Wischmeyer Memorial Scholarship are:

  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript
  • Resume
Additional Information: In 2000, Mrs. Mildred Wischmeyer donated $75,000 to the SME Education Foundation to establish a new scholarship endowment, named The Albert E. Wischmeyer Memorial Scholarship Award. The scholarship review committee and other ad hoc review committees will evaluate applications during March of the award year. Their recommendations for the top candidates will be presented to the SME Education Foundation Board at their annual meeting in May. Each applicant will be notified of the final decision by the end of June.

Award Amount: The minimum award amount is $1,000. This award is non-renewable. The scholarship can be used only as a credit toward tuition, fees or books.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.
