Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually and is dependent on the number of eligible applicants. Last year, eight awards were offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must enroll or plan to enroll for six or more semester hours.
  4. Must be enrolled or accepted in an accredited college or university and plan to obtain a bachelor's degree or higher in an aviation-related field.
  5. Must have 30 or more semester or 45 or more quarter hours still to be completed before college graduation.

Description: Undergraduate students enrolled in six or more credit hours with a minimum of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours still to be completed are eligible for this award. Students must be enrolled or accepted in an accredited college or university and plan to obtain a bachelor's degree in an aviation-related field.

Additional Information: ATCA scholarships are awarded to help support the financial needs of those deserving students who have chosen to seek higher education in the science of air traffic control and other aviation disciplines, as well as children of air traffic control specialists. Scholarship funds will be disbursed to the recipient as a reimbursement for actual, legitimate scholastic expenses whenever the student provides the ATCA Scholarship Fund, Inc. satisfactory evidence of the expenditure (i.e., tuition payment receipts, bookstore receipts indicating purchase of textbooks, or, receipts for the payment of dormitory room and board charges). The recipient also may have the educational institution submit bills for tuition, dormitory room and board or other scholastic charges directly to the ATCA Scholarship Fund for payment directly to the educational institution. Each recipient must be enrolled in his/her college/university before the award is disbursed.

Award Amount: $1,500 to $2,500 annually, non-renewable. A previous recipient may reapply.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available online from the American Traffic Control Association (ATCA) website by clicking on the 'Scholarship Program & Fund' link under the 'Resources' tab. In addition to the completed application, each student must submit a typed, double-spaced essay of no more than 500 words on the topic, 'How do you see your career unfolding?', which should focus on thoughts about how his/her education efforts will enhance his/her potential contribution to aviation; and two letters of recommendation; and official college transcripts. If the student is a high school student or has completed less than 30 semester or 45 quarter hours, he/she must also send high school transcript(s). The application must be submitted online and all supporting documents should be sent to the address provided and received by the deadline date. Faxed and emailed applications are not accepted at this time.
