Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund

Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of recipients for this program varies according to the number of college students meeting the eligibility requirements in any given year. Typically, the Craighead County Single Parent Scholarship Fund gives 12 scholarships per academic term for fall and spring, and 6 scholarships for summer.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a resident of Craighead County in Arkansas.
  4. Must have sole custody of one or more children under the age of 18.
  5. Must be the head of the household.
  6. Must be pursuing a career-oriented course of study in order to ensure a better standard of living for his/her family on a full- or part-time basis. The student should note that part-time awards are given on a funds-available basis.
  7. Must be a low-income person at or near the poverty level.
  8. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  9. Must be a high school graduate and/or GED recipient or currently enrolled undergraduate student.
  10. Must be single, legally separated, divorced, or widowed.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Current undergraduate students who have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher and are residents of Craighead County, Arkansas are eligible for this award. Students must be single and have custody over one or more children under the age of 18, be the head of household and live at or near poverty level.

Application requirements for the Craighead County Single Parent Scholarship are:

  • Proof of enrollment/acceptance
  • Tax return
Additional Information: Students must not have already earned a bachelor's degree with the exception of those pursuing a Masters of Arts in teaching. Finalists for the scholarship will be required to attend a scheduled interview.

Award Amount: Awards are available for up to $500 annually.Please note that part-time scholarships are awarded based on the availability of funds. All awards are non-renewable. The student may reapply each semester he/she is attending school, but he/she must fill out an application for each semester an award is sought. Scholarships may be used for tuition, books, utility bills, car maintenance, childcare, or any other financial need that contributes to the recipient's success in school.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $375.

SUMMER 2023: The application cycle for Summer 2023 scholarships will open on January 15, 2023. Summer 2023 application deadline is March 15, 2023. FALL 2023: The application cycle for Fall 2023 scholarships will open on April 15, 2023. The Fall 2023 application deadline is June 15, 2023.
