Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have a "B" average or better.
  3. Must be enrolled in an aviation program.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must be a college freshman or older to apply for this undergraduate award.
  6. Must be a resident of the U.S.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for college sophomores, juniors and/or seniors who are currently enrolled in an aviation program and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Preference is given to residents of Kansas, Missouri or Illinois.

Application requirements for the Dan L. Meisinger, Sr. Memorial Learn to Fly Scholarship are:

  • Recommendation letter
Additional Information: Preference will be given to students who reside in Kansas, Missouri or Illinois. Semifinalists are selected by the screening committee on the basis of their academic record, potential to succeed, leadership and participation in school and community activities, and relevant work experience. Applicants must be recommended by an aviation professional, although they may apply directly themselves. The recipient will be notified in writing at the earliest possible date. All other applicants will be notified in writing by mid-April. The scholarship is to be used for the express purpose of initial or primary flight training.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, non-renewable. The scholarship will be paid in two equal installments of $1,250 each. Checks will be mailed to the recipient's home address of record, and will be made payable jointly to the recipient and the participating flight school and must be endorsed by both.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications are available on the National Air Transportation Association (NATA) website by clicking 'Scholarships' under the 'About NATA' heading. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit a statement of his/her plans as they relate to his/her education, flight training, career objectives, future goals, and contributions and commitment to general aviation. The student must also have the 'Applicant Appraisal and Endorsement' area completed by an instructor or other person (non-relative) who has the ability to interview the student and attest to his/her ability and knowledge of aviation. Applications and supporting materials must be submitted online no later than the last Friday in November.
