Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund

Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies according to ASPSF funds and the number of qualified college students meeting the eligibility requirements in any given year. This year, the Greene County SPSF anticipates that 10-12 awards will be given.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a resident of Greene County, Arkansas.
  4. Must have a low income at or near poverty level.
  5. Must be responsible for the care of minor children.
  6. Must have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher if in school at time of application.
  7. Must be single, legally separated, divorced or widowed.
  8. Must be the head of the household.
  9. Must be a high school graduate (or the equivalent) or be in the process of obtaining either a diploma or GED, and be pursuing an undergraduate course of study at an accredited institution of higher learning.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Single Parent Scholarships are awarded to eligible single parents who are residents of Greene County, Arkansas. The applicant must have a grade point average of 2.0 or better and apply for a Pell Grant to be eligible for this award.

Application requirements for the Greene County Single Parent Scholarship are:

  • Recommendation letter
  • FAFSA
  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript
  • Enrollment/acceptance verification
Additional Information: The student must apply for a Pell Grant to be eligible for this award. Students apply for the Pell Grant by submitting the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The student must not already have obtained a bachelor's degree.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, renewable for up to three additional years. The scholarship may be used for tuition, books, utility bills, car maintenance, child care, etc.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.

Applications are available on the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund (ASPSF) website. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following: verification of enrollment or acceptance from an educational facility; recommendations from people who are familiar with his/her life experiences and character (must use the standard reference forms provided with the application); a personal statement explaining why he/she chose to continue his/her education, why he/she chose his/her particular course of study, what he/she hopes to achieve, and any additional information about him/herself which might be helpful to the selection committee in its evaluation; and a current transcript of high school, GED, college, or vocational/technical schools attended. The application and all supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
