In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a full-time student pursuing a bachelor's degree.
  3. Must demonstrate career promise in a helping profession such as: medicine, education, Jewish communal service, the Rabbinate, social service, performing and fine arts, healthcare or public health, urban affairs/public policy, law, or technical/sciences. The applicant may pursue a career in communications at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign only. Details of specific fields accepted may be found on the JVS website.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must meet one or both of the following criteria: he/she was born or raised in either Cook County, the Chicago metropolitan area, or northwest Indiana OR he/she has completed one continuous year of full-time employment in Cook County or the Chicago metropolitan area prior to starting professional education. Please note: the Chicago metropolitan area includes Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will counties. Northwest Indiana includes Lake County.
  6. Must be Jewish.
  7. Must be entering his/her junior or senior year at time of application.

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. college juniors and seniors who are Jewish and demonstrate career promise in a helping profession. Students must also meet one or both of the following criteria: he/she was born or raised in either Cook County, the Chicago metropolitan area, or northwest Indiana OR he/she has completed one continuous year of full-time employment in Cook County or the Chicago metropolitan area prior to starting professional education.

Application materials are available on the Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) website. The applicant must complete the following: a Legal Domicility Form, an Applicant Data Form, a Career Statement, a Letter of Reference Form, a Budget Worksheet, an Academic Budget Form, and a Release of Information Form. All forms are available on the JVS website. The forms must be typed and the font size must be no smaller than 10.5 and no larger than 12. The applicant should stay within and not enlarge margin lines, and the applicant should not use any bold font. The Applicant Data Form, Career Statement Form, Budget Worksheet, and the Academic Budget Form should be sent as Microsoft Word attachments to the email address provided. The following materials must be submitted by postal mail to the address provided: the Legal Domicility Form; two letters of professional and/or academic reference; documentation of tuition costs, fees and student loans; the Release of Information Form; and an official academic transcript (if in school, from present school, and if not in school, from most recent school attended); and the applicant's most recent tax return information. The student must also submit his/her parents' IRS Forms filed for the prior two years if he/she is under 26 and/or his/her spouse's, if applicable. Forms may be submitted when completed. Materials to be submitted by postal mail may be sent separately, but all materials (including emailed items) must be received by JVS by the deadline date.
