Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately seven awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be enrolled in an associate's degree program and plan to enroll in a bachelor's degree program upon completion of the associate's degree.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
  4. Must attend school in the New York City area.
  5. Must be Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino or Native American
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  7. Must be a current recipient of federal and/or state financial aid.
  8. Must have completed 24 to 30 non-remedial college credits by the end of the Spring semester

Description: This award is available for U.S. students in the New York area who are members of an underserved or underrepresented population and enrolled in or planning to enroll in an associate's degree program with the intention of transferring to a bachelor's program immediately upon completion of associate's degree. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, enroll full time, and receive federal or state financial aid.

Additional Information: In addition to academic scholarships, the Kaplan Leadership Program provides funding to assist with living expenses and other help in addressing many of the barriers students face. Through individualized academic advising, transfer counseling, college tours, summer study opportunities, and mentoring from corporate leaders, Kaplan Leadership Program Scholars are provided with the targeted help and resources needed to remove obstacles on the road to complete a four-year program and career success. Offers of acceptance will be delivered by the end of July.

Award Amount: Up to $3,000 annually while students are pursuing an associate's degree. While students are pursuing a bachelor's degree, they qualify for additional funding to cover living stipends, textbooks, etc.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $43,000.

Applications are available on the Kaplan Educational Foundation website. Paper copies can be made available upon request. To request one, send an email to info@kaplanedfoundation.org or call (212) 707-5300. In addition to a completed application, each student must submit the following: Two references (one academic and one professional) using the reference forms available on the Kaplan Educational Foundation website, Official Transcripts from your high school, sent directly to Kaplan (or a copy of your GED diploma and scores), and a Financial Aid Award letter from your college for the current academic year. All additional materials (that are not uploaded to the application form) must be emailed, faxed, or mailed to the Kaplan Leadership Program Admissions c/o Kaplan Educational Foundation using the contact information provided. All supporting documents must be received no later than the deadline date.
