Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a Kentucky resident.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen, national or permanent resident.
  4. Must plan to pursue one of the following: a Child Development Associate Credential; an associate's degree in early childhood education; a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary early childhood education or a related program that is approved by the Early Childhood Development Authority; or a Kentucky Early Childhood Development Director's Certificate.
  5. Must be employed 20 hours or more weekly in a participating early childhood facility OR provide training in early childhood development at least 12 times per year for an organization approved to offer training by the Office of Inspector General of the Cabinet for Health Services OR be employed as a preschool associate teacher in a state-funded preschool program.
  6. Must be enrolled at a participating Kentucky institution. A list of the eligible schools is available on the KHEAA website.
  7. Must be enrolled in no more than nine credit hours per academic term.
  8. Must be enrolled in an eligible undergraduate degree program.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to Kentucky resident students who are pursuing a degree or certificate in early childhood education at an eligible postsecondary institution in Kentucky. The student must be employed in an eligible capacity in the early childhood education field.

Application requirements for the Kentucky Early Childhood Development Scholarship are:

  • FAFSA
  • Application form
Additional Information: Students must meet the following criteria: be ineligible to receive state or federal training funds through Head Start, a public preschool program, or First Steps; have no unpaid financial obligation to KHEAA or to any other Title IV program; and agree to a service commitment based on the credential pursued. Award Amount: Up to $1,800 per award year, not to exceed tuition charged by the school. Students may reapply each year. Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,800.

Program information is available from the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) website. The student must apply for this scholarship via his/her MyKHEAA account on the KHEAA website. The student must also file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices.
