Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a current undergraduate student.
  3. Must be enrolled in a four-year program at a public or private college or university majoring in history or education.
  4. Must be enrolled as a full-time student in the fall semester in which the award is paid.

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. and international undergraduate students who are majoring in history or education at a four-year college or university. Students must be enrolled full time.

Application requirements for the Max McElhaney Memorial Educational Scholarship are:

  • Recommendation letter
  • Personal statement
  • Verification of student status
Additional Information: Sponsored by Rocky McElhaney Law Firm, the Max McElhaney Memorial Educational Scholarship has been established to honor the life and love of Rocky's Uncle Max. The scholarship will be awarded in May for the following fall term. The scholarship will be paid on the first Monday in September following the season opener football game of the University of Tennessee in accordance with Uncle Max's wishes.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, non-renewable. At the student's election, the scholarship can be paid directly to the university or college but is not transferrable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications are available on the Rocky McElhaney Law Firm website. In addition to a completed application, the student must provide the following documents: a story of the gold standard of love in his/her family; a statement of financial need; a written statement of 100 words or less describing why he/she is different from other applicants and should be chosen for the scholarship; one recommendation from a faculty member or university/college advisor; and a completed form verifying his/her student status. Application materials must be emailed to the address provided or completed online by the deadline date.
