Description: The Pedestrian Education Video Scholarship Competition is available for high school juniors and seniors, as well as college freshmen and sophomores, who reside on Long Island, New York. To apply, students must create and submit an original video on the topic of pedestrian safety.

Additional Information: Walk Safe Long Island is a collaboration between safety educators, law enforcement, and community leaders in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The organization was created and works to increase pedestrian safety and reduce the number of preventable accidents that pedestrians face while traveling in and around Long Island. All submissions will be evaluated and judged by members of the Walk Safe Long Island coalition, and winners will be selected based on how well each video submission educates the audience, reaches diverse populations, and responds to the contest topic question.

Award Amount: The first place recipient will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship and the second place recipient will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship. All scholarships are one-time awards and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

Application instructions and submission forms are available online using the provided links. To apply for this scholarship contest, students must create an original video in response to the following topic question: "'Why is it important to educate Long Islanders about pedestrian and traffic safety?" In addition, videos should provide educational information about laws and rules in Long Island that can be relevant for local audiences. Videos must be between 30 seconds and 3 minutes in length. All applicants must also complete the online submission form and include an uploaded copy or link to the video. Videos larger than 15MB may not be uploaded and must be shared from a publicly available third-party URL on a website such as Youtube or Vimeo. Completed submissions must be received no later than the deadline date. Late and incomplete submissions, as well as videos containing profanity or copyrighted materials will not be considered.
