Number of Awards & Eligibility: 20 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  3. Must reside in Windham County, Vermont OR Readsboro or Searsburg in Bennington County. Please note: Preference is given to residents of the Deerfield Valley towns of Dover, Halifax, Readsboro, Searsburg, Whitingham, and Wilmington who are first-generation college-bound and/or non-traditional students.
  4. Must be an incoming or current certificate or undergraduate student.

Description: This award is available to undergraduate students who reside in Windham County or Readsboro or Searsburg in Bennington County; preference is given to residents of Dover, Halifax, Readsboro, Searsburg, Whitingham, and Wilmington who are first generation, college-bound, and/or non-traditional students. All students must demonstrate financial need and school/community involvement.

Additional Information: The THV Scholarship was created to encourage Windham County residents to seek postsecondary education and to contribute fully to freedom, peace, and social understanding throughout the world, beginning in their own homes and communities. Please note: This scholarship is funded by an endowment subject to laws restricting disbursements under certain investment yield scenarios; as a result, there can be no guarantee of a scholarship award for the upcoming academic year. Applicants must demonstrate school/community involvement and financial need. Selection is based on application documents and financial need. There are approximately 110 applicants for this award each year.

Award Amount: $1,000 to $5,000 annually, non-renewable. Please note: A maximum of $25,000 in total scholarships is awarded annually.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $250,000.

Applications are available from the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC) website. Applications may be completed either online or in paper form beginning on November 1. Please note: The student is only required to submit one application for all scholarships for which he/she wishes to apply. In addition, if a particular document is required for more than one scholarship, the student need only submit one copy of that document. To apply, the student must complete and submit the VSAC Unified Scholarship Application and submit the following materials: a letter of recommendation; an essay; and official transcripts. NOTE: Required additional materials MUST conform to the detailed instructions in the VSAC Scholarships Booklet. The student is highly encouraged to review the booklet thoroughly when assembling materials. Electronic applications and any digital versions of supplemental materials must be submitted by midnight on the deadline date. Paper applications or any supplemental materials in paper form must be postmarked by the deadline date.
